How we repoint
- Free visit. We look at the walls, chimney or ridge, check how deep the damage goes and give you a fixed written price. No charge for the visit and no obligation.
- Rake out. The old, loose mortar is raked out of the joints, so the new mortar has something solid to grip.
- Repoint. Fresh mortar pressed firmly into the joints and finished neatly.
- Tidy up. Old mortar and dust cleared away when we finish.
- Photo report. Before-and-after photos, including the high bits you can’t see from the ground.

Why repointing matters
Mortar is meant to wear out before the bricks do. Once it starts to crumble, rain gets into the joints, freezes in winter and pushes them further apart. Left long enough, it can lead to damp inside and loose bricks outside. Repointing in time keeps the wall sound and is far cheaper than rebuilding it.
Common questions
How do I know if my wall needs repointing?
Look for mortar that’s crumbling, sandy when you rub it, or sitting back from the face of the bricks, and for gaps between bricks. Damp patches inside on that wall can be another sign. If you’re not sure, we’ll take a look on the free visit.
Do you repoint chimneys and ridges too?

What if some bricks are damaged?
We take photos and show you before doing anything extra. Nothing gets added to the bill without you agreeing to it first.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily, as long as we can get to the wall safely. You’ll get the photo report either way.
Can you repoint in any weather?
No. Fresh mortar needs to set properly, so we don’t repoint in frost or heavy rain. If the weather turns, we move the job and let you know.
